At the D-Day Memorial Scale Contest we had 13 planes entered and a wonderful meal. What’s to complain about, except for 97 degrees and
50% humidity?

Thanks to our judges, Evan Wenger, Mark Post, and Ron Denney, who endured four hours of unrelenting heat and we really appreciate their
dedication to the job. I’d like to give a special thanks to Ron Adams for taking on the cooking duties.

This is a busy month. Our next event is a RC demonstration for a science day camp on June 15. Several pilots have graciously volunteered their time and talents, but there is always room for more. Call me if you can help. Let’s not forget our pylon race at the end of next month. It’s
always been an exciting event.

We’ll be discussing this during our next meeting, Tuesday night, June 15th. Come to the meeting and give us your ideas.

AMA Gold Leader Club #1659 - Denton, Texas

.

North Texas Aeromodelers (NTA) fly at a field located at a North Lakes Park in Denton, Texas. The park is owned by the City of Denton but the field improvements and maintenance is provided by club and its members.

NTA is known as the friendliest RC Club in North Texas. Everyone is welcome even if you do not own an RC plane or helicopter. In fact, you can schedule an introductory flight with a club instructor before you buy in to the hobby. You won't find a more helpful and knowledgeable group in North Texas.

Introductory Flight Training Program

To introduce prospective aeromodelers to the thrill and excitement of flying radio controlled aircraft, the club (along with the generous support of our local Hobby Shops), is sponsoring an introductory flight program. The club will provide the model, radio, fuel and a qualified trainer; all you have to do is bring yourself!! Introductory Flights are free and highly encouraged! Everyone is welcome to "give it a try"! See "Welcome to the club" under the Membership tab for NTA certified instructors.

Basic Flight Training Program

Once you have your own aircraft, our expert instructors will teach you to fly with confidence and safety. Learn at your own pace. We will take you step by step through your first solo flight. Free to all club members.

Getting Started

Although you may like to start out with high performance aerobatic aircraft, you must resist temptation. Learning to fly R/C aircraft requires a good trainer plane and lots of practice. Many kits and ARF (almost-ready-to-fly) models are available as trainers including the Hobbico Nexstar and Hangar 9 PTS P-51. Be sure to visit your local Hobby Shop for advice and personal assistance and to see the latest items available!

When

Most every Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting. You can also schedule time with a NTA instructor during the week. See the Membership page for further instructor information.

Note: Winds in excess of 20 mph are not considered good days to train.

RCU - Great Britians "J-3 Cub"

Review by: Bruce Simsek

By 1930, Geoffrey de Havilland's one- and two-seat civilian biplanes had grown so popular in England that virtually any kind of private airplane was called a "Moth" ? much as, in America, any small plane was automatically a "Cub".

The prototype of the DH 82 Tiger Moth made its debut flight on October 26, 1931. The Royal Air Force took notice and began using Tiger Moths for elementary pilot training. By the end of World War II, de Havilland had delivered more than 4,200 to the RAF. About 3,000 more were built in Australia, Canada and New Zealand for Commonwealth Air Training.

Eventually, over 8,700 de Havilland DH 82 Tiger Moths would be manufactured. Of them, more than 250 are still considered airworthy.

Torque Roll Tips

Great article from RC Universe by Serge Daudelin.

Torque rolling is like any other aspect of flying, it takes time and practice to become proficient and how to do it is one of the great debates of the hobby. Ask ten people and youll get ten different answers. With that in mind, I'll attempt to explain issues with torque rolling that I find important to understand.
